The issue isn't printing itself
The most frustrating moment usually occurs even before pressing the "Print" button.
It's essential to determine whether the app detects the printer, supports color printing, if the chosen driver is compatible with the specific model, and whether it can transfer a PDF, photo, or file from cloud storage. Why is it that one document sends successfully, while another suddenly won't open?
As a result, an ordinary household task turns into a technical experiment.
This is especially annoying when you need urgent printing: sending a contract, printing a photo, preparing documents for travel, or printing a few pages from email.
PrintMeld aims to simplify this process. Users do not need to understand the intricacies of drivers, protocols, or equipment compatibility if PrintMeld can identify the printer and correctly accept the selected document.
The "install and print" scenario
The main scenario is simple: after installation, the user opens PrintMeld, selects a document or photo, finds the available printer, and sends the job.
The app provides an automatic search for printers on the local network. If automatic detection doesn't work, it's possible to manually add a printer via its IP address.
PrintMeld supports working with various document sources:
PDF files;
photos and images;
files from the Files app;
iCloud Drive;
Google Drive;
OneDrive.
There's no need to first save the document to a separate folder, rename, or convert it. In many cases, it can be chosen directly from where it already resides.
Color and black-and-white printing
A common reason for the appearance of PrintMeld is the situation where the app appears to print but is actually limited to black-and-white mode.
PrintMeld allows selecting color or black-and-white printing. If necessary, a user can choose black-and-white mode for regular text or to save on consumables.
Depending on the capabilities of the specific printer, the following options may also be available:
Number of copies;
Page range;
Single or double-sided printing;
Portrait or landscape orientation;
Paper size;
Scaling;
Print quality.
This approach allows users to keep essential settings handy without turning each print into a complicated technical procedure.
Printing via the Share menu
One natural scenario on iPhone begins not with opening PrintMeld.
Users might be in an email, browser, Files app, or gallery. They open a document or photo, tap "Share," select PrintMeld, then specify the printer and job parameters.
There's no need to save the file first, launch the app, and look for it in the directory. PrintMeld can be used directly from the place where the user is already working with the document.
Task queue and status tracking
With a single document, the queue might seem like a secondary feature. But when printing multiple files in a row, it becomes part of the normal workflow.
Users need to understand:
which file has been sent;
which printer is used;
how many pages are in the document;
whether the job is processing;
if printing is finished;
if an error occurred.
PrintMeld offers task queuing, status display, and a printing history. The history allows viewing details of completed jobs, including file name, selected printer, date, time, number of pages, and the operation result.
This is especially useful in the office, at home with multiple sequential documents, or when a printer is shared between users.
Multiple printers in one location
In real networks, there's rarely just one printer. At home, there might be a device for printing photos, while in an office, several printers might be on different floors or in different rooms.
PrintMeld allows saving frequently used devices, switching between them, and accessing recently used printers.
The automatic search remains the primary method, but manual addition via IP can be useful if network detection doesn't work.
Gradual expansion of compatibility
PrintMeld does not hide an important limitation: it's impossible to guarantee perfect support for all existing printers, manufacturers, network protocols, and non-standard models in advance.
Therefore, the app explicitly states: if a specific printer doesn't work, users can report its brand. The project team can investigate such cases and try to add or improve support.

Universal printing does not mean that the app can turn any old USB printer into a network device or bypass physical equipment limitations.
The printer must be available on the network or support a connection method compatible with the app. Additionally, results depend on the compatibility of the specific printer model and the features of the local network.
But the approach is still fundamentally different. Users are not offered endless driver searches. The app aims to handle the most complex part of preparing the task, leaving users with a clear choice: file, printer, and print settings.
